I've decided to put online some material from my sporadic family history researching, in the hope that others might find it useful. Please follow the links below to access the material currently available.

The Japps of Dalgety Parish

Christian Japp of Dalgety, Fife, who married David Mitchell in 1817, is my great great grandmother. The document contains most of the information I have gathered on the Japp families of Dalgety Parish, together with historical material on the parish itself.

Dr James Mitchell (1793-1869)

Born and raised in Fife, Dr James Mitchell is my great great great uncle. He emigrated to Australia in the early 1820s, and played a significant role in the development of New South Wales. His son founded the Mitchell Library in Sydney.

James Lothian Mitchell (1863-1908)
(This link opens in a new window.)

James Mitchell, my maternal grandfather, was the illegitimate son of a domestic servant and an agricultural labourer. He rose to become the leading figure in the political and educational life of Burntisland, Fife, in the early years of the twentieth century. He was the driving force behind the establishment of Burntisland's public library.
